The library is currently closed while we undertake a major restoration project of this beautiful historic structure. We urgently need the help of the community to fund this project so the library can once again be opened to serve the public.
With a building almost 200 years old it's no surprise that the structure supporting the roof of the library is in need of repair. We have engaged the services of Kronenburger and Sons, specialists in restoration and preservation of historic structures, to perform the work, which is estimated to cost $150,000. Kronenburger and Sons has an excellent reputation and has completed extensive renovations to well known properties such as Gillette Castle, and the Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe Houses. We are confident Kronenburger will restore the structural supports of the roof while maintaining the historical integrity of the building.
Please consider making a donation to The South Glastonbury Public Library Restoration Fund to replace the roof and structural supports of the building. Your donation, large or small, will help to preserve this historic building and take us forward into the "next chapter" of the South Glastonbury Library.
